15/01/11: Whether a cunning plan or just coincidence, the arrival of Simon Cowell’s newest protégés One Direction at G-A-Y on promoter Jeremy’s birthday (he being partial to cute guys) was fortuitous in deed, and after having led somewhat sheltered lives since their X Factor shows, backstage the lads were in high spirits. Harry, Liam, Louis, Zayn and Niall (don’t ask us which is which!) entered X Factor as soloists but were formed into a band at boot camp, and with good looks and dancing ability they received a riotous welcome as they took to the stage and competently knocked out most of the tracks they covered on the series. Not having their own calendar yet (or indeed a single), they signed other peoples and made five audience members very happy before singing an a capella ‘Happy Birthday’ to JJ. These guys are clearly going to be managed to within an inch of their lives by Camp Cowell and are sure to be huge.
