The Glory Orgy @ The Glory – Sunday 16th April, 2017
We arrived at The Glory at around 5pm on the afternoon of Easter Sunday. Outside on the street, a group of middle-aged women in maxi dresses were screeching and grappling with empty bottles of prosecco as they tried to get their phones out for a picture. It certainly made for an eye-catching sight. In what is fast becoming an easter tradition, the exterior of the Haggerston boozer was festooned with what can best be described as Werthers Original Chic. Just absolutely drenched in gold foil! Inside, blasphemous shenanigans were in full swing. An impromptu toga-making arts and crafts workshop had been set up by comedian Jayde Adams, while Rudi Douglas crooned away at the keyboard. Later, in true Glory style, things got steadily more unhinged, culminating in a male stripper tripping over a stool, and drag performer Frieda Slaves (!) almost literally swinging off the light fittings. “Jesus died, so we could DRINK!” proclaimed Johnny Woo at one point. Well, quite.
