GREAT 8

Posted on February 8, 2012

Eagle London is re-shaping the London scene with a truly diverse series of regular club nights, cruise events and good ol’ fashioned hoe-downs for hot, horny and happy homosexualists. As they celebrate their 8th birthday this weekend, QX presents eight of their best!

HORSE MEAT DISCO

The world-famous Horse Meat Disco has dominated Glastonbury, Lovebox, Berlin, and countless other uber-kewl destinations. And every Sunday it continues to fly the flag at its home venue, Eagle. Resident DJs James Hillard, Jim Stanton, Luke Howard and Severino spin the best in nu and classic disco. Every Sunday.

TONKER

Booze. Cruise. Tunes. That’s what it’s all about at Tonker, and it works. Now 8 years old, Tonker draws an eclectic mix of blokes, bears, and everyday guys – there’s a place for everyone at Tonker. Headlined by international resident DJ Tim Jones, and featuring guest DJs aplenty, expect only the best sounds. Together with one of the hottest crowds in London, the fantastic chill-out beer garden as well as the cruisey bar, Tonker is not to be missed. Every Friday.

CARPET BURN

The monthly night dedicated to only the best and edgiest tunes and dance music from the 80s and 90s. Featuring special guest DJs and regular PAs from the biggest acts of yester-year. Every first Saturday of the month.

DEEP FRIED

Deep Fried presents a night of quality DJs playing their favourite rekkids for the boozy delight of beer-swilling guys and pearl-clutchin’ gurls. Expect a rockin’ atmosphere with no snarky-gays. WHAT. SO. EVER. For the control freaks amongst you, here’s a sketchy musical-road-map drawn in lipstick on the back of a damp cocktail napkin of what to expect: electro, retro and disco, with a splash of balls-out rock and pop, but a lil’ harder, darker, noisier and glitchier from DJs Krotkrot, &Mrs, Sugarlow Boys and Thetroublewith. Check QX for future events.

COCKETTE LONDON

Techno, electro, pixel, acid house, bear, skirts, boots, leather, glitter, women, men, drag, and a hetero-friendly homosexually-charged atmosphere means Cockette is all about freedom to have fun! The most famous Italian gay alternative night from Milan has in just a few years managed to pull in the sexiest gays, bears, straight folks, club kids and fashionistas in one hedonistic space… and it takes over Eagle on a regular basis. Special guest DJs from Cockette are Max M and Fedex with visuals by Maivideo. Check QX for future events.

DEEP INSIDE

After an extended break of far too long, the deeper, sexier housey night returns to infiltrate your ear-buds and penetrate your bones as Luke Howard spins the sexiest, leanest, horniest tunes for a fiercely sociable crowd of homos and their friends. Next event, Saturday 17th February.

FUNK & RIDE

After getting off to a blistering start at the end of 2011 with packed and jumping parties at one of London’s favourite venues, Eagle, Ronnie King and Fred Mann take up a monthly slot at Eagle. The club has quickly established a popular music policy that ranges from break beats, rare groove and sister funk, though P-funk, jazz funk and R&B, all the way up to and including the latest contemporary dance music: in short, if it is hot, hard and funky, the guys will play it and the crowd go wild! Every last Saturday of the month.

MIDWEEK CRUISING

As if Eagle didn’t deliver enough bang for your bucks on the dancefloor every weekend! Head down to Eagle Monday to Thursday where they host a range of sexed-up cruise and booze nights such as Bootcamp (Monday), Ashley Ryder’s Strip Academy (Tuesday), wrestling night Grapple 101 – Bulge (Wednesday) and Triga Thursdays.

• Eagle’s 8th Birthday Ball is at Eagle London (349 Kennington Lane, Vauxhall, SE11 5QY) on Saturday 11th February, 9pm-4am.

• The night is dedicated in loving memory to Wilma Oakley, who passed away last week.
