HORSE MEAT DISCO 8TH BIRTHDAY: ODYSSEY

16/10/11: Vauxhall saddled up for a wild night as none other than 70s/80s disco doyennes, Odyssey, hit the Horse Meat Disco stage for a hot-hoofing eighth birthday bash last Sunday.

Drawing in a capacity crowd, and with queues snaking ‘round the block, the influential dance legends raised the roof for a hysteria-inducing run down of hits, including worldwide smashes, ‘Inside Out’, ‘Native New Yorker’ and our fave; dark and melancholic seminal funk ballad, ‘If You’re Looking for a Way Out’, that had the HMD faithful baying for more.

Meanwhile, the celebrations continued with the HMD resident DJs bringing it back home for NYC disco and euphoria-inducing Italo dance as the globally-renowned off-kilter homo bash looked back on eight thrilling years as a leading light on London’s leftfield gay club scene.

Mane attractions included rough-rider Luke Howard dropping some of the meatiest stirrup-stompin’ beats on the planet, whilst outside, the frantic proceedings carried on unabated under a nebulous nicotine cloud, augmented by tawdry gossip and frozen cocktails, courtesy of our fave Soho ice cream parlour Gelupo. Horse Meat Disco – we salute you!
