HOT AUGUST FRINGE

16/08/2012: Imagine, if you will, the most eclectic, diverse array of cabaret and performance, add a dose of the bizarre and downright ridiculous and pepper with tranny terrorists, and you would be about halfway down the road to the RVT’s summer season, also known as the Hot August Fringe.

With more on offer than Edinburgh on acid, we are truly spoilt for choice but last week jumped in with both feet for Nathan Evans’ collision of cabaret, live art and film “I Love You But We Only Have Fourteen Minutes to Save the Earth”.

The multi-course feast kicked off with Timberlina trying to feed the world in a Last Supper re-enactment whilst also trying to justify buying it, Fancy Chance imagined her alternative life back in Korea if she hadn’t been abandoned in a box and adopted to the US and the video sorbet inter-course from Bette Bourne was refreshing in it’s simplicity and directness, “Fuck your brains out”.

The dessert to this smorgasbord was provided by the inimitable David Hoyle who’s anti-Olympic tirade was designed to help us synchronise our brain waves as a collective and become spiritual communists, and by the end we were physically, emotionally and mentally stuffed.

This was followed by QX Editor Kletus Cliff Joannou and Deputy Editor Lee Dalloway taking part in Holestar’s ‘Take Me On’, a gay version of the somewhat tacky, “no likey, no lighty”-monikered Saturday night show ‘Take Me Out’.

Whilst our Editors didn’t manage to find love with a fierce (in every sense) looking drag queen and an 18-year-old cheesecake maker from Liverpool, Holestar should be commended for helping gay men to find love – all in a hilarious one hour package at one of our favourite bars. What does it say about us that it takes a ‘tranny with a fanny’ to give us what we need?

THERE’S MORE TO COME…

As summer comes to a close, things are still scorching hot at RVT during the upcoming Bank Holiday weekend and beyond. The Hot August Fringe continues next week, and we’re super excited about two of our favourite gurls, Mzz Kimberley and Son ofa TuTu appearing together in Sister Acts on Thursday 30th August.

Plus there’s an epic wrap party on Friday 31st August featuring a plethora of top talent. But before that on Sunday 26th August, the ever-popular S.L.A.G.S/Chill Out session will have a special appearance by The Lipsinkers, taking the spot usually reserved for The D.E. Experience for one week only.
