Hungama Glory: 20/05/17

20/05/17: On Saturday night, and for one night only, the Glory seemed to have moved further east. Quite significantly further east. Under the directions of cultural curator Ryan Lanji, with a little help from stylist Max Allen and from some of the queens from London’s own veteran LGBT asian night, Club Kali, the hip Haggerston rendezvous was hosting a big gay Indian wedding, complete with safron flowers, henna and exotic sweets. At the decks, Lil India (Vancouver, Canada), DJ Ritu (Club Kali) and Lanji himself were dishing out spicy eastern beats expertly mixed with RNB and hip hop. It was impossible, and frankly pointless, not to let oneself be swept by the exuberant flow. In happy coincidence with the nuptial theme, Jennifer Saunders’ daughter (she really looks a lot like her mum) was celebrating her hen night there with a bunch of her girlfriends. The night had been dubbed “hungama”, which apparently means “bedlam”, and it was indeed complete madness. In the best possible way.
