LAYING THE FOUNDATIONS…

Foundation is the new kid on the block in terms of Friday night clubbing, promising to kick some life back into the end of the working week: giving good wholesome clubbing at its best! With two dance floors featuring some big names like scene stars Alan K and Steve Pitron, we caught up with the dynamic duo to find out what else we can expect on the grand opening night…

Foundation is looking to put Friday clubbing in Vauxhall back on the map. What’s in store?

ALAN K: Foundation will be all about uplifting hedonistic dance music that everyone is itching to hear back in Vauxhall. Watch this space, as there’s loads happening within the next few months.

STEVE PITRON: One of the big attractions for me with Foundation is that it’s on Friday night and I’m very excited to be playing a party at nighttime as I normally play after-hours.

How will you deliver something fresh with the music policy? What DJs are involved?

STEVE PITRON: Alan has some great ideas and I like the direction and vision he has. There’s a healthy mix of new DJs as well as some more renowned ones, which will work well together.

ALAN K: Mainly I think myself and Steve Pitron have been a perfect blend for years playing on the same bill together, and 99% of the time I played after him and it has always worked perfectly – we have always managed to create something very special. Other DJs that will be involved will be Terry Bryan, Micky Galliano, Guy Williams, Tony English, Paulo Moreno, Jamie Hammond, The Oli and Steven Geller, but the main thing is that we as a team are going to change the music back to uplifting credible house music. Personally, I think there has been a huge shift in music in Vauxhall and I want it to be something fresh.

Vauxhall is criticised by some as being occasionally repetitive with its music or clubbing. Do you think it’s hard to be too adventurous with music policy in the area?

ALAN K: In my opinion I think a good DJ reads his or her crowd. You have to give them what they want, not what you think they want, or try to educate them into thinking a certain kind of music is fashionable. Maybe I have that wrong but everyone is entitled to an opinion.

STEVE PITRON: I’m confident that Foundation will find its own space within the already vibrant and lively clubbing neighbourhood that is Vauxhall.

We also understand you’re gonna have guest clubs and promoters taking over Room 2?

ALAN K: Watch this space again, but I wanted to have hungry new kids on the block with loads of fresh ideas have input into something they can call their own as opposed to paying them a fee to promote. I feel you’ll get a lot more out of them that way.

How’s the venue looking after the recent refurb for those who have yet to see it?

ALAN K: Amazing. We have now finished all the works: the venue looks incredible, come down and see for yourself. A lot of money has been spent and a lot of love has been given.

Anything else you’d like to add?

ALAN K: Yes, on our opening night there is a free drink for every customer to get the party started! Also, I’m determined to do something different at Covert that goes right from the bus boy sweeping the floor to the management and security. Manners are free and a happy working environment will create the right environment for everyone to club in peace and harmony. P.S. Leave the attitude at home and come play with us!

• Foundation’s opening night is at Club Covert (65 Albert Embankment, Vauxhall, SE1 7TP) on Friday 5th April, 11pm-late.
