5/10/12: In the season’s most anticipated scene comeback for some time, Popstarz – the alternative gay guy’s beloved, unabashed commercial conflation of pop, indie & rock and R’n’B – arrived at its new home; club Hidden, in the heart of Vauxhall – and how!
The night’s regular community of cheeky, cute-faced and casually dressed guys will know Popstarz has been more ‘Pop-Up Shop’ of late, pitching up base at various bars and clubs around the central city after it’s untimely ousting from the legendary Den venue; but last Friday marked a change of fortunes for the scene favourite – and us bass-chasing troops were there in force to celebrate!
As ever, the happy hour and heady bar deals helped ensure our faithful attendance. Inside were the customary three music arenas – now a maze of black cavernous spaces separated by doors and starry-lit mezzanine lounges instead of stairs – ram-packed with plenty of persuasion!
A smoking garden and a new 6am license, too (God bless the Gay district!) completed the package sensationally! Vive la re-launch, this baying crowd will be back with bells on!
