QUEER NATION 21ST BIRTHDAY

08/10/11: QX Club News hit the tiles as Queer Nation celebrated a sensational 21 years entertaining London’s diverse homo masses with a storming birthday bash at Fire last weekend.

Drawing in a funked-up crowd of faces we recognised from back in the day when promoter Patrick Lilley rocked Brixton’s Substation every Saturday night, along with fresh new fans who must have surely still been lip-synching to Whitney in their mum’s’ high heels when Queer Nation first achieved statehood; the gay club scene may have changed beyond recognition in the last two decades but QN still knows how to stage a pumping party.

Highlights included Jeffrey Hinton and Supadon spinning a whirlwind of NYC house anthems that had the main room erupting in classic style, whilst drag superstar Jodie Harsh bagged a coveted guest slot in the Lounge. Elsewhere, QN veteran Biggy C got the joint smokin’ in the Work! room with a booty shakin’ R&B rundown that saw QX struttin’ to Beyonce, Rihanna et al.

Meanwhile, there was much more to come, with a PA from house diva Kathy Brown and Patrick himself taking to the decks for an anniversary set as Queer Nation proved there’s still plenty of life left in one of the capital’s most legendary club nights!
