14/06/14: Patrick Lilley’s celebrated monumental club brand ‘Queer Nation’ came roaring up the river from South London, and landed with a bombastic boom and booty-pumping beat slap bang in the middle of Hackney’s finest pub-club, The Joiners Arms!
With both Joiners owner, the inimitable David Pollard, and Mr Lilley holding similar ethoses in terms of no-attitude, judgement-free clubbing nights where everyone is free to be themselves, it was a wonder that they hadn’t been united before, and Queer Nation’s stellar DJing and inclusive tunes went down a storm with the fashionable, ever-happy Joiners crowd.
‘Life, love and liberty’ is the motto of this legendary East End institution and Saturday night saw all of those three pillars in abundance, spilling out into the smiles on the punters’ faces and their easy limbs dancing to the music.
When we turned around and suddenly found it was 4 in the morning, it was the time that had slipped us by – Joiners, it’s always a pleasure to visit your shining jewel in the East End crown, and Queer Nation, we can’t wait until next month!
