REVOLUTION

16/03/12: Viva le Revolution! It can take a fair bit for this shamefully snobby Norf Londoner to sashay down Sarf of the river, but the RVT always manages to lure me out of my Islington cocoon with its mix of raving trannies, live tuneage, hand-in-the-air club nights and quirky art/cabaret.

Couple it with the single launch of Rich B’s fantastic new track ‘Revolution’, and I was there faster than you could say ‘Does one need a passport to cross the Thames?’

As soon as you walk into the ‘Tavern, there’s that unmistakeable friendly atmosphere and ridiculously eclectic mix of punters, which just gives you hope that an increasingly corporate gay scene can still do unforced, tongue-in-cheek, attitude-free fun without the need to segregate us into tribes, or knocking back bottles of suspicious looking eye droppers whilst being blasted in the face with a confetti cannon.

Back to the night itself, and there was a heavyweight line up of spinners, including Phil Marriott, Sean Sirrs and Simon Le Vans (Happy birthday, sir), and of course Mr B himself. But the real showstopper was the fantabulous Marcella Puppini, who drips top class burlesque from every pore and served up a quality performance of Mr B’s new track.

We arrived pretty early, just after the doors opened, and the next time we looked at the clock it was well into the next morning! Revolution provided a feast for the ears and the eyes – even if those eyes did have some major baggage underneath them by the time we crawled home in the early hours.
