13/10/11: We actually can’t believe it’s been a year since Jodie Harsh and her merry band of fashionistas, glamourtrans and boys-for-hire burst on to the Soho scene and completely transformed a previously demure Thursday night.
Where did all these bitches hang out before? If I were to get really profound, where the hell do they go once the club shuts? I can’t imagine it’s to an office job to do a spot of data entry for some nark in a suit called Norman Birtwhistle.
But I digress; Room Service feels like as much a part of Soho as some generic queen stumbling down Old Compton singing ‘Bad Romance’. But none of that hideousness here, it’s hip-thrusting house beats as ice cool as the clientele, served up by super spinners Severino, Kris Di Angelis, Fat Tony and Dimitry Strigun.
There was also an abundance of famous faces, including Westlife’s Mark Feehily, superstar photographer Mariano Vivanco, actors Russell Tovey and Sienna Miller, singer Roisin Murphy and designers Calvin Klein and Matthew Williamson.
Ask most 18-year-old gayers in 2001 what they wanted to do with their lives and the answers were many and numerous. Ask them now and they simply say, “To have my picture taken at Room Service”. Terrible for society, but great for La Harsh.
Room Service has had its fair share of imitators, but there’s only one original and best!
