SERIOUS MOONLIGHT

23/03/13: David Bowie is suddenly the name to rock out again on everybody’s music-savvy lips as new album The Next Day rockets to number one on the charts, the V&A retrospective on his career continues to sell out and DJ duo TheMenWhoFellToEarth throw a party dedicated to his extraordinary music at the Dalston Superstore.

When QX fell out of a cab in front of the ‘Superstore at midnight, there was a sizable queue stretching down the Kingsland Road, which we swanned past waving a press pass, a fag and a feather boa.

Inside, the place was packed, to the extent that the poor cloakroom girl refused to take our coats on the account that she had no literally had no space for them.

Not to be daunted, we threw our bags to one side – who needs accessories anyway? – shotted Sambuca from the hot bar boy in the cap (yes, we’ll be back for you next time: you’re marked) and shoved our way Moses-like through the feral meat of the crowd down to the laser-filled basement dance floor.

And, of course, the first song we heard down there had to be ‘Let’s Dance’. We needed no more encouragement than that, although apologies to all who we may have accidentally hit with our flying limbs. David Bowie, like black, will never go out of fashion.
