Sunday Social @ RVT

04/10/15: No weekend in London would be complete without a trip to Vauxhall and some top class entertainment at London’s longest-running gay venue The Royal Vauxhall Tavern.

The RVT is famous for promoting the ‘creme de la creme’ of the London cabaret scene and this weeks ‘Sunday Social’ was no exception with the entertainment supplied by multi-talented drag diva Charlie Hides. Showtime and the crowd of regulars are about to be spoilt again by Charlie’s flawless performance. From the outset the show is slick and polished. Between each makeup and costume change, sketches from Charlie’s TV show are played on the big screen, including Ewan McGregor ‘Phantom Romance’, ‘Famous Funerals’ and ‘Madonna in Therapy’: ‘’Madonna, We’ve had a call from Iggy Pop, he says can he have his body back?’’. My favourite is the Sue Sylvester (from Glee) impersonation! Best quote of the night; ‘’could your daughter be a lesbian? Does she shave her legs with a brick?’’. After an impressive and highly professional performance Charlie speaks seriously for a moment about an issue that is close to his heart, Gay teen suicide. He manages to leave the crowd on a high though by performing the Wayne G mix of ‘I Just Wanna Fucking Dance’, which paves the way nicely for the resident DJs to take the party onto the dance floor until the end of the night!
