SWEATBOX & MEAT: HOT MEAT

24/09/11: Sweet baby Cheeses, anything that comes out of Kris Di Angelis’ mind should either be subject to severe psychological analysis or immediately brought to the attention of M.I.5.

Having said that, it all makes for one damn fine musician-cum-DJ, producer and, more recently, club promoter.

In just six short months he and fellow co-conspirator Tom Stephan (you know him: superstar DJ, remixer, producer, everything) have together carved an urban phenomenon in the shape of their club brand, Meat.

To say that this night has ignited the attentions of virtually every hot Tom, Dick and Harry in the East London club scene is putting it mildly.

Not content with creating a sexed-up sensation through the monthly musical onslaught and testosterone-charged atmosphere at their home venue, East Bloc, when Kris told me they were taking the concept into a sauna for a one-off ‘Hot Meat’ special, I actually choked on my taramasalata-coated carrot stick.

And so Team Meat transported themselves for one night only to Soho’s Sweatbox for a real clash of differing scenes in a night that won’t be soon forgotten.

An afro-sporting Munroe Bergdorf and Kris’ muse, Jonathan Bestley, held court all over, while Kris and Tom spun the sexed-up sounds in the clubroom.

Elsewhere, towel wearing Sweatbox customers mixed it up with fashion-clad Meat regulars for a night like something out of a John Waters’ classic.

Francis – aka the naked guy from Circus – led the au natural drag onslaught before their outfits slipped away to towels or less, to the amusement of the hotties in attendance and the average Joes who just popped in for a Saturday night steam.

As the night progressed, dignity was shredded and… well… what? You expect us to tell you everything? You should have been there yourself…
