COCK 10TH ANNIVERSARY

21/07/12: Oh Em Fucking G! In a week where club and bar anniversaries have seemingly exploded on London’s glittering gay scene, we can’t tell you how excited we were to be back doing what we do best – worshipping The Cock!

Was it really ten years ago that we used to sashay into Ghetto, with its sweaty walls, fabulously eclectic and individual club kids, delicious synth-driven tuneage and questionable drips from the toilet ceiling? Had so much time passed that we’d actually forgotten how much we loved one of our favourite nights until we saw it here, in its new spiritual home of East London in the much bigger (but still of the same vein) XOYO?

What a treat to see not only some of the old familiar faces, still fabulous, if ever so slightly more disco damaged, alongside a whole new generation of up-for-it Hoxtonistas, who have been keeping the spirit of The Cock and Ghetto alive for the last decade.

The music was on point, the atmosphere was fantastic and, best of all, The Cock pulled out one of its impromptu performances out of her handbag once more. The Scissor Sisters strutted on stage to perform ‘Let’s Have A Kiki’ – probably the hottest club joint of the moment – and the whole place erupted in an explosion of kiki-loving madness.

It was an especially appropriate PA since The Cock was the club that presented the ’Sisters with their first ever London PA looooong before they hit the commercial charts! Please, please say this isn’t going to be a one-off?! We’re all lying on our backs, waiting to receive another epic dose of The Cock – don’t leave us holding our own ankles for nothing!
