The Glory with Betty Grumble

23/07/16: It’s a strange beauty to find a performing artist where every scene of their show is A-grade in its artistry, hilarity and political message, but it’s even better to feel that the message received is more powerful than the sum of its stunning parts.

It was this Edinburgh preview show where Aussie feminist tour de force BETTY GRUMBLE trashed and tore apart the Glory disguised as (to name a few): the oil tycoon patriarch who claws treacle life from a paper earth before eating it; she re-imagines in horrifying bodily goo detail what the girl the Pussycat Dolls were describing in Dontcha could really be like, and was the eighties VHS fitness instructor who made lighting a sparkler in a place light doesn’t reach a compelling protest of the female body.

Her deranged wit, impeccable timing, and fantastic bag of references are the result of a perfectly constructed and realised stage persona. We can’t wait to experience your divine insanity again!
