TOTALLY PROHIBITION

Prohibition brings together some of the gay scene’s biggest brands for one mighty night of clubbing. Pier Morrocco of Lovechild, Alan X of Bear Necessity and Mista Pierre of Queer Nation share their love for their respective clubs…

PIER MORROCCO

Describe Lovechild: the music policy, the atmosphere, the crowd…

Lovechild is glamorous clubbing with a sexy twist, and the music style reflects this. We play lots of vocals, but always underpinned with some hard-hitting basslines that connect from the waist down! I’d say the atmosphere is playful yet slightly charged, and it’s a great combination.

What are your favourite Lovechild moments of past events?

The strangest thing that’s happened to me was in Moscow, when the club suffered a series of complete power cuts in the middle of winter. Every single light failed, so out came about 400 lighters. Valerie M of Groove Armada just kept singing from the stage, it was like some sort of vigil, then the lights and sound kicked back in, and we just kept going… until it happened again, for so long that the temperature started dropping rapidly, and that was that!

Top 3 Lovechild Tunes

  1. ‘U and Me’ – My Digital Enemy
Totally sums up what I was saying about vocals with a really beefy sexy bassline.
  2. ‘Bou’ – Dario Nunez/Jhony Kv
An early taste of the summer, packed full of bongos and African chants, great for a bit later on in the night… percussive and grungy.
  3. ‘Let It Go’ – Peyton/Carlos Gallardo feat. Rebeka Brown
Leaves you feeling energised and up!

How would you describe Bear Necessity?

The friendliest, most sociable crowd of all the current clubs. There simply is no attitude! BN is about realness and fun, where there is always a handsome crowd of big beefy men intent on having a great time – what more do you want?

What are your favourite Bear Necessity moments of past events?

I remember Louis Lennon and I played our first Done & Dusted gig in the Chapel Arch for BN at Area – it was a fantastic atmosphere and afterwards I was rooted to the dance floor listening to the guest DJ who kept me dancing for hours.

Top 3 Bear Necessity beats

  1. ‘Do It To The Music’ – (Federico Scavo Remix)
All-time West End Paradise Garage classic vocal from 1982 – sexy, soulful and sweet as a bird. Beefed-up by Scavo’s rolling bass.
  2. ‘Good Things’ (Original Mix) – Ted Nilsson, Stuart Ojelay, Dan Van
Pumping 2013 version of Daddy’s Favourite 2008 monster which samples Patrice Rushen’s 1979 song ‘Haven’t You Heard’.
  3.  ‘Justified’ – Prok & Fitch, Filthy Rich
  4. With vague Madonna references (‘Justify My Love’) and pumping chords this Toolroom Miami track hits the spot nicely.

MISTA PIERRE

What’s so special about Queer Nation?

The people and the music. For over two decades Patrick Lilley’s Queer Nation has served up and atmosphere has always been warm, soulful, vibrant and welcoming. It transcends race, class or age and is designed to attract clubbers who enjoy music with uplifting energy, rhythm, and melody.

Queer Nation attracts and inspires clubbers who want good music to be the prerequisite for social engagement and interaction, a place where they can relax and be themselves as individuals with no attitude. Most of all it’s fun, funky and attitude free. Music, as some lady once said, brings the people together, but I don’t wanna preach!

Top 3 QN Classics

  1. ‘I Feel Good Things’ – Daddy Favourtite
Floorfiller classic sampling Patrice Rushen’s ‘Haven’t You Heard’. Be warned you’ll spill your cocktail in avoidance of the pirouetting masses!
  2. Backfired’ – Masters At Work feat. India
Classic uplifting track from 2001 still stands the test of time!
  3. ‘Rockin Music’ –Martin Solvieg (Joey Negro Edit)
A well-produced funky house track that lends itself to all house genres, with a subtle hints of Michael Jackson’s Thriller!

Current QN Hot List

  1. ‘Sounds In The Air’ – Soul Purpose
From the Joey Negro camp this is a showered with bassline bombardment! Yet this track still remains crisp track everyone can pout and strut to.
  2. ‘New Lady’ (Scott Diaz Remix) – Steven Stone & Wendy Lewis
A slick, clean old school US Garage style contemporised for 2013.
  3. ‘Latch’ (T.Williams Club Edit) – Disclosure
A tasty house remix of this 2013 hit, with great vocals and harmonies together with slick production!
