WHAT’S IN THE ‘STORE?

It’s not how big it is, but what you do with it! Dalston Superstore might not be the biggest-mega-super-club in the world, but with constantly evolving club nights, and some of the edgiest DJ talent on its roster, owners Mikki Most and Dan Beaumont have created one of London’s most essential disco destinations. Cliff Joannou chats to Mr Beaumont…

Was it hard to get the punters to make the extra trek from Shoreditch to Dalston?

Some people thought we were miles out when we first opened… They’ve soon readjusted. Since we launched a lot has grown up around us, and now people know that there’s a burgeoning gay scene over here they travel across London.

Does East London still have its cool underground edge, or is it now pretty much a party town for one and all?

East London is really whatever you make it – you can find whatever you want, providing you know where to look. I think if you are passionate about music, fashion or art – or any combination thereof – then it’s one of the most vibrant and inspiring places in the world.

Why is Dalston Superstore different?

We are a venue for music-loving fags, dykes and anyone else who wants to come along with the right attitude. Some of the best DJs in the world have played in our basement but we also provide a platform for the freshest new talent in London and beyond. Also, a lot of people don’t realise that we open every day from brunch onwards and serve delicious food, seven days a week!

Your programming changes so rapidly. One Saturday night is so different to the next! Tell us about some of your favourite parties you put on.

They’re all our favourites! Recently Breed [Rex the Dog’s massive new night], Delirium [the deeper side of Kris di Angelis] and Paris’ Acid Ball [my house night with Hannah Holland] have all been really taking off, but we also have our classics like Jonjo’s Hot Boy Dancing Spot, Severino & Friends and the legendary TrailerTrash, plus loads of others… We are really lucky to be able to work with some of the most talented DJs and forward thinking promoters in London.
