Wigs’n’Heels

20/09/14: Celebrating almost a decade of entertaining London’s Spanish LGBT population and their pals, Pelucas y Tacones, aka Wigs ‘n’ Heels, threw a spectacular 9th Anniversary ‘Back To The 90s’ Rave that had Hackney’s cavernous New Empowering Church venue bursting at the seams for a monumental bash last weekend.

Featuring DJs Alejandro Asencio and Pepi spinning a retro mash-up of Latin pop classics, Rocio Durado power ballads and Almodovaresque kitsch, a capacity crowd gave it up for demented day-glo antics on the floor that had QX Club News sweating buckets amidst the humidity.

High point of the evening saw the masses going wild for a full-on live set from Spanish 90s dance hero, Chimo Bayo – like the Prodigy in a car crash with Julio Iglesias – we might never have heard of him in England but he certainly inspired adoration amongst the Wigs ‘n’ Heels massive, performing a run down of hits including world wide smash ‘Así Me Gusta A Mí’.

Meanwhile, there were hours more thrills and spills to come as the anarchic fiesta continued through ‘til super-late. Congratulations to the Wigs ‘n’ Heels crew on 9 fantastic years – we’ll see you at the next one!
