Briefs at Southbank’s Wonderground

“The louder you shout the more clothes come off!” Our host, Shivannah announced to us. Naturally the circus tent erupted. And the naughtiness continued from there.

This season sees the return of the dazzlingly larger-than-life Briefs, the show for “a jaw-dropping, eye-popping evening of extravagant birdbath boylesque, too-close-for-comfort yo-yo tricks, valiant aerial acrobatics, irreverent interludes, and show-stopping drag artistes.”

Many of you will remember their OTT camp sell-out tour from last year and after touring the globe, from Berlin to Brisbane, they’re back with “more circus skills, more disorder and more burlesque” and with evidently more balls!

The show was spectacular. From the beginning it was obvious it was once again a night of perverted debauchery, an opulent bedazzlement of unprecedented proportions. The aerial acrobatics were enchanting and magical – leaving the audience sensually ravished yet still hungry for more.

Of course, the cast are gorgeous – and barely clothed for the majority of the night. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t hang around the Wonderground bar afterwards – hoping to ‘accidentally’ bump into one of them.  The Evil Hate Monkey was one of the stars of the show – doing things that I’ve never seen a man do with a banana (well, not many men).  Dellas Dellaforce, Australia’s Queen of avant-garde Drag was delicious (or more accurately – boobalicous).  And the things that ‘school boy’ can do semi-naked with a yo-yo is awe-inspiring.

The show left me – and most of the male audience members needing to change their very own briefs. A must see!
