FETISH ART

Hong Kong-based artist Den Den has turned his love of BDSM and fetish into some seriously eye-catching images. We caught up with this up-and-coming talent to tell us more…

What are the inspirations for your work?

The starting point that made me love BDSM and fetish was at age 10 when I went to watch Rambo II with my family. In the movie, there was a scene where he was captured by the enemy’s camp; he was shirtless, placed in a bad situation, being tortured, electrocuted and humiliated by the interrogators. When he flexed his muscles in reaction to the pain I thought it was so attractive. Why? Not because it looks perverted or that I added my own erotic thoughts into the scene of a man tied up but because when a men uses his strength to act tough, to act manly and never fail, his dignity before the enemy, that is truly a ‘man’. And, personally speaking, a man wet by his own sweat through the whole BDSM experience is very sexy.

Do you think there are a lot of inaccurate misconceptions about the world of BDSM/fetish?

People are scared about it, yes! They think it is painful, sick or perverted but BDSM and fetish is actually a game. As a BDSM lover myself, fetish is a mind game that can increase the level of fun and sensation rather than regular sexual activities. That you can both play the game well is dependable on the mutual trust and experiences that you both build up. Can you say it is not fun to try BDSM or fetish?

What is your favourite piece of work and why?

My skills have improved very much to this stage; the characters I created no longer have a robotic look! But my favorite work I think is named ‘Captured by Sci-Students’. It is a turning point for me on controlling the light and shadow on the man’s body and it is my first attempt to make the characters have more prominent facial expressions, the subject is in the fear and pain, in how they yell and groan.
