Hotwired with DJ Pistolpete

It’s Hotwired this weekend! Ahead of this, DJ Pistolpete’s gives us his top 5 tunes:

Technasia – Obsession (Hombre Lowdown’s French Kissed Edit)

I normally say never mess with a classic but here the main riff and bass from Louis Louis’s classic French Kiss is utilized to devastating effect here.

Cirez D – On Off

Cirez D is the dirty alter ego of Eric Prydz. He’s produced so many classics that it’s hard to have a favorite but if I was forced to choose, this would be it. It’s techno but not dark. It’s fun and bouncy and this classic always destroys dance floors.

Gene Farris – Us

Gene Farris is a pioneer of Chicago’s house music sound. Here he uses a simple baseline and tight drums held together with a wailing horn sound and a repeated vocal hook of “it’s me, it’s you…” that builds and builds. Dirty and dancey!

D-Nox & Beckers – Watch Me Now (Egbert Remix)

Nice big room techno number that has an injection of fun with a cool funk vocal sample from The Jimmy Castor Bunch’s – Its Just Begun: “Watch me now, feel the groove, into something, gonna make you move”.

Adriatique – Rollox

Adriatique are really on form at the moment. Normally associated with a more delicate house/techno sound, here they produced an electronic dance floor monster that to my ears has lots of old school (90s) sounds and references. Beautiful, dynamic and very dancey.

• DJ Pistolpete will be playing at Hotwired this Saturday 19th at Ewer St Car Park, 29 Great Suffolk St., SE1 0NS, from 10pm-6am. Tickets from £25, more on door.
