HOW TO SAVE THE WORLD WITHOUT REALLY TRYING

The best things come in pairs. Ant and Dec. Ant in Dec. Ant on Dec. Bourgeois and Maurice are another addition to this illustrious list. They’re a glamorous and sardonic song-writing duo, cutting into the absurdities of modern life via the medium of melody. Social commentary in sequins. Satire in stilettos. Think Ike and Tina Turner with an ornately bound manifesto.

They’re two of the biggest names in London’s alternative performance scene. Name a venue and they’ve played there. The O2? Ok, not every one. The Hungry Horse in Keston? No, think bigger. Royal Opera House? YES. Also, the Southbank Centre, Sadler’s Wells, as well as their regular performance night at Ace Hotel in Shoreditch, Shindig.

Well, anyway, they’re coming back to their spiritual home, Soho Theatre, for a small run. Well, not that short a run. It’s longer than that jog you went on last Monday to alleviate your comedown guilt. But they’re bringing their ravishingly-received Edinburgh Fringe show to London for the back-end of October. It’s called ‘How To Save The World Without Really Trying’, which pretty much sums up the sentiment of 2016. The country’s going to THE DOGS, but we won’t take to the streets, as it’s a bit cold out and this mince is going off tomorrow so we should probably cook a big chilli.

If you’re going to leave the house this autumn, make sure it’s to catch Bourgeois and Maurice try and make sense of this annus miserablis in the only way they know how: a special cocktail of spiky flamboyance and sharp song writing.

• How To Save The World Without Really Trying by Bourgeois and Maurice is at Soho Theatre, 21 Dean Street, W1D 3NE, from Monday 17th-Saturday 29th October at 9.30pm.

• Tickets are £12.50 from sohotheatre.com
