QX Recommends: Club Vada

Dalston Superstore are pioneers of deliciously debauched, shimmeringly fresh club night concepts. They make Studio 54 look like Chicken Cottage. Whether it’s handbag house or twink techno, they’re leaders in their field when it comes to crazy cool queer content.

Next weekend, Cathal and Hannah Holland introduce a new bi-monthly party, Club Vada! The word vada, is the name of an Indian dish of deep friend pulses. Ignore that though, it’s irrelevant. Delicious, but irrelevant. No, the more significant meaning of the word vada, is that it was a word in gay polari slang for “look” or “see” or, as Wendy Williams would say “how YOU doin?” So, if a hot guy went past, you’d turn to your friend and say “ooh, vada her!” Nowadays, because we’re all arrogantly, unabashedly open, we just say “ooh he’s well fit!” Much to the chagrin of depressed girlfriends of insanely hot straight men the world over.

It’s a great name for a club night, because it implies sexy subversiveness, which, by the sounds of it, is exactly what Club Vada entails. Their premier night on 24th September entails a FIVE HOUR SET from Hannah Holland. She’s our favourite celesbian DJ, and her trademark electrohouse beats turn heads and call you hypnotically into the night.

She’ll be downstairs in the dance basement. Upstairs, DJ and multimedia artist will be holding court along with Jonjo Jury and Elles, as well as Max Allen lending his wizard cuffed chicery to proceedings.

It’s gonna be unique, it’s gonna be exciting, it’s gonna be LIT. So go down and ‘av a vada!

• Club Vada is on Saturday 24th September at Dalston Superstore, 117 Kingsland High Street, E8 2PB. 9pm – 3am. £6 entry.
