SLEEPING WITH STRAIGHT MEN
Posted on January 18, 2012
There is no doubt that the relationship between straight and gay guys can sometimes difficult and complex.
Don’t get me wrong, there are many gay guys out there who have very successful platonic relationships with straight guys. However, regardless of sexuality, both gay and straight guys can think with their dick a little more than what’s necessary.
But is it possible to have a mutually beneficial friendship with out all the cock talk?
Of course they can, but with every story there is always two sides, some gay/straight relationships don’t always go so smoothly; sometimes the gay guy falls for the forbidden fruit – or tube steak – of the straight guy, or the straight guy’s life can be turned upside down with temptation. I mean come on, have you seen how hot us gay guys can be, who wouldn’t be tempted?
Temptation is one of the central themes that run throughout this hot and dark comedic production. Sleeping with Straight Men, written by the talented Ronnie Larsen and directed by Paul Taylor-Mills, is a witty dark comedy, which plays on that central theme.
Larsen’s play takes its inspiration from real life events in the United States, where a young man confessed his undying love – and lust – to a straight man on national TV.
Post-TV show, straight guy Lee, well-cast by the ruggedly handsome Adam Isdale, can’t come to terms with what has taken place and the embarrassment that could unfold.
At his wits end, Lee then decides that the only way to save himself from being disowned by his close ones and community is to kill his gay secret admirer, Stanley, played by the charming and lovable Wesley Dow.
Throughout this production, we are treated to the wonderful vocal talents of Martin Milnes playing small town cabaret performer Sally.
I’d have loved to see some more depth to the key characters, although amazing performances from all the cast powers the show and complements the gorgeous and truly touching pieces in this production.
