So Clichéd!

Cliché is the new club night on the London landscape that is set to blow your box apart over the Easter weekend, courtesy of gay club promoter extraordinaire the one and only Miss Jodie Harsh and her partner in glorious nightlife crime, Scottee. With premier bastions of the capital’s LGBT scene involved, like Room Service, Sink the Pink and Scottee’s devilish performance friends, this is set to be one of the highlights of your Bank Holiday extravaganza. QX caught up with the dynamic duo behind it themselves to find out more about what to look forward to…

QX: Tell us how this mad night all came about…

Scottee: I first started showing off at Bestival in 2008, and since then I’ve bought many an eyelash, drag queen and show to the Bestival Island – in short, they love the gays. For this year’s festival they have really up’ed the gay content and we wanted to celebrate that with a proper poof-y knees up over Easter. Cliché is a showcase of some of our favourite Bestival ingredients, it’s just a shame I’m curating it with Jodie…
Jodie: Scottee and I are like sisters. We despise each other…
Scottee: I’d go as far as saying I hated you.
Jodie: But when we get together magic seems to happen. We’d been working on some dance arenas and productions for this September’s Bestival and collectively thought it’d be a fun idea to throw everything into one gigantic melting pot of insanity for a big ol’ Bank Holiday party at The Scala. It’s a hotbed of everything that’s brash and colourful on the London scene and a taster of what’s to come at the festival. Who hasn’t spent a drunken youth there at Popstarz!? My feet hurt just thinking about it – I’m gonna dance until they kick me out, and even then I’ll be dancing with the cleaners.

Soooooo, what’s original about Cliché? What can we expect to entertain us with on the night?

Jodie: The original element comes from throwing together a load of stuff that normally shouldn’t be in the same sentence. I’m not going to bore you with that promoter speak about ‘the London club scene being oh-so-diverse and we’re celebrating being the most vibrant club landscape in the world’ … blah blah blah…boooooring! But the truth is, where else could you do karaoke with Hot Breath, dance to Rob Da Bank and Severino at Room Service, werk the runway at Sink The Pink and roll with the queens of Scottee’s ‘Drag’ show? It’s a mini festival under one roof and it’s going to be fucking fun.
Scottee: It’s a karaoke room, homo disco, drag bar, line dancing, sexy knees up under one roof that welcomes everyone to enjoy a proper night out up west and endure a hangover on Easter Sunday.

And what’s the musical flava on the dancefloor?

Jodie: Each room is different – Sink The Pink plays the trashy shit we all secretly LOVE, Room Service is house-house-house (Radio One DJ and Bestival head boy Rob Da Bank is spinning which is HUGE!)
Scottee: Bit of a dream team on the Room Service line up with Severino and Hannah Holland!
Jodie: Scottee’s laying on Mzz Kimberly (literally) and a microphone and some other kweens, Hot Breath is all about YOU singing karaoke.
Scottee: Figs in Wigs will be line dancing to 90s classics, Ginger Johnson will be singing about Ikea! Not to forget the MainStage act, the first lady of drag Jonny Woo!
Jodie: Trust me, it’ll be fun. Just come. Or I’ll punch you. Seriously.

• Cliché is at The Scala (275 Pentonville Road, King’s Cross, N1 9NL) from 10pm-late. £17.50 advance tickets available.
