TWO BREWERS STREET PARTY

04/06/12: After the royal festivities of the weekend you’d think we’d be tired out but of course we found the energy to pop down to The Two Brewers’ Jubilee Bank Holiday Street Party.

Patriotic Union Jacks were hanging from the ceiling and the street was awash with red, white and blue bunting. In true British style, jugs of Pimms were being served outside alongside a summer barbeque. The Clapham locals were celebrating with those that had travelled from further afield, some sporting flamboyant jubilee outfits. Sprits were higher than the drag queens’ hairstyle.

The afternoon kicked off with a calamity of drag acts including Rose Garden, Dolly Diamond and Titti La Camp. The fabulous acts in their sparkling dresses kept the lively crowd entertained with their classic covers and crude jokes. Then later in the evening we were treated to cabaret royalty Kandi Kane Baxter and Sandra, who had the audience in hysterics well past the midnight hour.

As night fell resident DJs Demon, Mike and Little John pumped out recent chart toppers that sent the crowd into a dancing frenzy. Great British hats and flags floated among the sea of partygoers, united in a warm and friendly celebration. With the party going on until 5am The Two Brewers provided a royal night of comedy, cabaret and Clapham cuties that was not to be missed. God save the Queens.
