Jason’s Five Years of Cabaret
Five years ago this week, QX took a chance on an enthusiastic young (I was once) drag hag and offered me a job as their cabaret reporter. To mark half a decade of interviews, this week I’ve been trawling through the archives.
Look, It’s Myra!
Myra DuBois: Self Admyra at London Wonderground
We’re Roasting Myra DuBois!
LOOK WHAT WE’VE DONE! We’ve committed what could either be social scene suicide, or will be absolutely major or both. Either way, it’ll be insanely entertaining. We’re roasting She Who Shall Not Be Roasted. No-one before us has dared! Not even Baga Chipz, and she’s mad. She’d roast Lisa Lampenelli. She’d roast a turnip!
QX Pride Guide
So last week we whipped up the DEFINITIVE QX Pride Guide. Our esteemed pick of things to do over the Pride season. Well, turns out it wasn’t quite as definitive as we thought, because here we are with more. We couldn’t resist! Sometimes you just need more don’t you? Sometimes…a girl needs an inch. That Extra Inch. Is that the name of Victoria Beckham’s autobiography. Is it? Who knows. Who cares, really. Anyway, back to pride! Here’s yet MOOORE gorgeous, camp, unique events going on around our beautiful city.
5 Shows You Should See This Summer
It’s that time of the year when the sun pops out from beneath the clouds for a few days, and we all get dead excited. As well as the various Pride events taking place anywhere there’s a post office, there are some cracking shows coming up. And as much as I love the sun (I mean, have you seen my tan), I’ve always been a total night owl and my idea of cabaret bliss is going along to a theatre or a spit and sawdust club for a good meaty show. So, with that in mind, here’s my top cabaret picks for this summer in London..
It’s Valentines weekend. Yay. Oh, whatever. What a load of shit. If you’re anything like us, your Valentines weekend will consist of Netflix, EricVideos and eating a Terry’s chocolate like an apple. But there is hope; ursine party people XXL are putting together a little cabaret show for you before their V-Day dance spectacular. It’s got that Dr Woof and Myra Dubois in it. They’re dead good they are. We had a quick chat with them to find out what to expect from them come Saturday.
Now ingrained in the seasonal cabaret and theatre schedule, adult pantos offer an alternative to the mainstream, more sanitised productions that take place in every major city and town in the UK.
‘Tis the weekend of Halloween madness which, my dears, is an excuse to really go to town with your ‘looks’, if you fancy it. I get accused of looking like I’m ready for Halloween in the middle of summer, so at this time of year I usually blend in!
I don’t know about you, but I find October the month we all seem to gear up for Halloween... even though I’ve been accused of looking a bit spooky when Halloween is nowhere on the horizon! Anyway before all that hoo-ha lets see what’s happening this weekend.
