Midweek Mini Cabaret Crawl!
Jason Reid shows that even on a Tuesday in January, there’s still a glitteringly camp night out to be had on London’s gay scene.
Are you ready to get festive for Christmas? ARE YOU? Well we are. We’ve already starting emulating Mariah Carey by calling everything festive. How festive. Apart from the gratuitous drinking (which we do all year round anyway) our favourite thing about the festive season are all the amazing EVENT POSTERS.
Prince Bendover at The Royal Vauxhall Tavern
The UK may be a small country, but we’re a great one, too. The country of Shakespeare, Churchill, the Beatles, Sean Connery, Harry Potter. David Beckham’s right foot. David Beckham’s left foot. David Beckham’s arse. David Beckham’s bulge. Victoria Beckham. ‘Let Your Head Go’. AND PANTOMIMES.
“Royal Vauxhall sees these three larger-than-life characters shacked up in a Kensington flat, when they decide to cure their boredom by dragging themselves up and heading to the Royal Vauxhall Tavern.
Beefmince feat. Mikalis at the RVT!
Here’s a thought: what do London’s mass of gay vegetarians and vegans make of the raft of meat-based club nights? Where’s the tofu and quorn themed backlash? Quorn this way? Too Drunk Tofu?
Kasha’s Cocktail Soirée
International celebrity housewife Kasha Davis is a shopper, a lover of laughter and an old school humanitarian. When Kasha took time out to chat with me last week she was preparing to make her UK debut at The Royal Vauxhall Tavern with There’s Always Time For a Cocktail. Like many drag artists, Kasha’s success was far from meticulously planned: “I never imagined I would be doing drag! I studied theatre and dreamed of being on stage but chose the ‘practical life’ for nearly 20 years.” she revealed. “My passion has always been to help people and as a young child I didn’t have many, or any for that matter, honest representations of a homosexual lifestyle, that I was attracted to.”
BEEFMINCE, London’s BIG and BEEFY club, has announced its new monthly residency at the iconic Royal Vauxhall Tavern so we met up with the two promoters Argyris (right) and Dan (left) to find out what London’s gay scene should expect from this promised platter of beef.
We Want Dick!
The Royal Vauxhall Tavern annual panto has now become somewhat of a Christmas tradition on the LGBTQI London scene, much like Santa unloading his big sack all over our shag pile on Christmas Eve. This year’s offering, Charming Dick, has a stellar team behind it both on and off stage. Jason Reid found out more from the RVT’s head of light entertainment Catia Ciarico.
Tis’ the season to be (extra) CAMP and (extra) QUEER, so before you go booking tickets to see Jeanette Krankie or Ann Widdecombe make a tit of themselves dancing to S Club 7 in a panto in zone 6, check out Jason Reid’s ultimate guide to the scene’s top seasonal shows across the capital. From adult panto, to spoken word, via avant garde, there’s something for everyone out there...
