London Pride Cabaret Guide

London Pride Cabaret Guide

HAPPY PRIDE! For me this year’s Pride is more pertinent than ever considering recent events; of course every year we should be standing tall and proud, celebrating who we are, being visible in the face of bigotry that sadly still lurks like a dark cloud over what we’ve come to assume is civilised and progressive times. Drag queens and gender-benders have always been at the forefront of the Pride movement, so I implore you to spread the love, support our bloody brilliant cabaret venues and ENJOY!

5 Shows You Should See This Summer

5 Shows You Should See This Summer

It’s that time of the year when the sun pops out from beneath the clouds for a few days, and we all get dead excited. As well as the various Pride events taking place anywhere there’s a post office, there are some cracking shows coming up. And as much as I love the sun (I mean, have you seen my tan), I’ve always been a total night owl and my idea of cabaret bliss is going along to a theatre or a spit and sawdust club for a good meaty show. So, with that in mind, here’s my top cabaret picks for this summer in London..

Clapham Crawl

Clapham Crawl

In order to write about the gay scene, you have to actually go out on it sometimes. At QX we’re constantly documenting the week’s events through professional photo reviews, but one drunken evening Dylan and I decided “why not cut out the middle man?” We could document our own night, we slurred to each other, with our phones and pads and iPogs and ManDroids or whatever.

Now ingrained in the seasonal cabaret and theatre schedule, adult pantos offer an alternative to the mainstream, more sanitised productions that take place in every major city and town in the UK.

Christmas Crackers!

Christmas Crackers!

Tis’ the season to be (extra) CAMP and (extra) QUEER, so before you go booking tickets to see Jeanette Krankie or Ann Widdecombe make a tit of themselves dancing to S Club 7 in a panto in zone 6, check out Jason Reid’s ultimate guide to the scene’s top seasonal shows across the capital. From adult panto, to spoken word, via avant garde, there’s something for everyone out there...

Oh Danny Boy!

Oh Danny Boy!

The newly crowned winner of this year’s Drag Idol and the most talked about act to hit the scene in some time, Danny Beard, is a fascinating character. The competition itself has seen somewhat of a queer revolution of late with both LoUis Cyfer and now Danny taking the title. Giving his first full interview post Drag Idol, the man behind Danny spoke to Jason Reid this week...

Come to the (weeknight) cabaret!

Come to the (weeknight) cabaret!

London’s cabaret scene is one of the most thriving and diverse in the world, with new artists and shows constantly emerging. And it’s not just all happening at the weekend. Each night of the week there’s always something going on, catering to all tastes. Most of which is free entry or significantly less than a theatre ticket - perfect for these ‘times of austerity’ (and that way you have more to spend on shots). This week Jason Reid guides you through a selection of the best ongoing weeknight shows out there, from drag kings to drag legends via queer variety and showgirl glamour...
