SEA PURPLE (15)

From Italy, this beautifully shot film tells a true story from 19th century Sicily, as feisty tomboy Angela (Valeria Solarino) falls in love with her best friend Sara (Isabella Ragonese) and must resort to drastic measures to be together. This involving movie makes some resonant comments about male-dominated society, in which women have no say about their lives or their bodies. If you’re not interested in these important issues, the film is also populated with gorgeous Italian men, often shirtless and sweaty while working in the local quarry or fruitlessly pursuing either Angela or Sara. (Peccadillo).  7/10
