SKINNY BITCH GOES TRAINING

Here’s the story of Lee Dalloway’s first attempt at PT sessions with our friends at No1 Studio Training

I’m not sure what happened to me just before December. There I was, happily rolling along as a booze-addled broomstick, then, suddenly, I looked in the mirror and wasn’t happy. Maybe the years of staring at wide-eyed, muscle-bound mary’s in nightclubs had seeped into my subconscious and made me feel inadequate. Maybe I just wanted someone to objectify me sexually… everyone always looks into my eyes, never at my tits! I can lean seductively over the bar, but there’s still no free drinks for Leeona!

So, I got in touch with Harry and Ben at No1 Studio Training in London Bridge, who set me a challenge of a month of personal training. Now, don’t go thinking I’m some lazy bitch who does little more than lift a cigarette to her lips. I walk to and from work each day (a half hour journey), work out 2-3 times a week, eat (sort of) sensibly, drink in moder… ok, I’m not kidding anyone with the last one! But I’ve always found it hard to tone, build and keep motivated during gym sessions.

Harry and Ben summoned me to the studio three times a week (Two hour-long training sessions and a frenetic 30-minute class) for four weeks and assured me I’d be looking and feeling better. Now, I hate taking orders (just ask my long-suffering Editor Kletus) but I realised that this was to my own benefit, and this one time, I should probably just shut the fuck up.

One of the worst things about training alone at a gym is the boredom. The guys at No1 make sure you do different exercises each time, they’re totally focused on your progress and tailor each individual exercise, so as you squeeze out the optimum workout for your body’s needs. They push you just far enough outside of your comfort zone so as you can actually see and feel the results – plus, they’re a right laugh to train with, too!

The equipment they use also harnesses the power of your own body to work out and, genuinely, you can feel the difference in using TRX Suspension Trainers and power plates than you can with the standard machines most gyms have.

I slipped in the sessions during lunch break, which was hardly a chore, and if you’re pushed for time you can even do half hour sessions.

One of the best bits for me was that I wasn’t fighting for space with shrieking queens – when I go to the gym, I go to work out, not have a social. I was impressed with how much the guys not only got me looking more toned but actually increased my motivation to work out again. I now go back to the studio 2-3 times a month and they’ve given me a diverse program to do when I’m on my own at the gym. They can also tailor prices and packages to suit individual needs.

The bottom line for me was, in days gone by I would have been happy to spend fifty quid eroding my nostrils, so I may as well spend not much more than that building some muscle, feeling healthier and better about myself. Drugs are bad, kids, muscles are good!
