Halfway II Heaven 23rd Birthday

15/11/14: In what is probably one of the biggest collection of wigs, heels and sequins seen this side of Pride, Halfway II Heaven hosted a monumental 23rd birthday party to rival the best of them.

And rather than taking all the credit for itself, they gave the occasion over as a fundraiser for Cancer is a Drag, the charity that offers assistance to people suffering from the terrible disease.

Some of the scenes most legendary artists and aspiring newcomers crammed into the basement for a spectacular day hosted by Rose Garden. On duty providing the huge laughs were Lola Lasagne, Carmen Dioxide, Bambi Boo, Tanya Hyde, Morag McDuff, Fonda Cox, Mrs Moore, The Bear Did Lady, Stephanie Von Clitz, Dusty Springs, Cathy Cream, Kara Van Park, Martha D’Arthur and CK (aka Crystal D’Canter and Kelly Mild).

£919 was raised, which is enough to give three people living with cancer a support grant to help them with their bills, buy or fix household appliances, maybe pay for some treatment/medication or travel to and from hospital, or even have a much needed short break away.

A huge thanks to all involved and to manager Angel and the Halfway II Heaven crew for hosting it all.

Tanya Hyde

“I spotted a guy in the audience who used to present a kids TV show that I remember from when I was younger so I got him up on stage. I wanted to find out what role he was sexually. We had to do a demo for the straight ladies and whilst ‘being a top’ my leg locked so I got stuck on his back, I looked more like a jockey then a convincing top. He ended up being a bottom so was of no use to me!”

Rose Garden

“My most ridiculous memory is pretending to be a mermaid as Morag McDuff sang the theme tune to the film.”

Bambi Boo

“The strangest thing for me was witnessing Rose Garden remember over 16 names, as most weekends she struggles to remember her own and consistently calls me cunt (no idea why). The best thing? The free booze! It was the cheap stuff but when you were breastfed white spirit from birth, you’re not that fussy! GIN!”

The Bear Did Lady

“I think the highlight for me was catching an eyeful of Bambi Boo’s fuzzy peach bum cheeks as she transformed from that creative psycho-bitch we all know and fear into the cute, demure young thing that created her.”

Stephanie Von Clitz

“I know the line ‘Did I mention I was in panto’ was said a lot.”
