An iconic piece of Sex and the City memorabilia, the Fendi “Baguette”, is making its way to London next year.

When lion-maned, daydreaming sex columnist Carrie Bradshaw finds herself at gunpoint, gay men everywhere were left clutching their Cosmos. When reluctantly handing over her purple, sequined under-arm candy, she can’t help but let her robber that it’s not a bag. It is, in fact, a “Baguette”.

The bag launched back in 1997, with the original selling more than one million versions to date, not including the style variations which Fendi have released over the years, according to the Financial Times. It’s clear that the piece’s cameo appearance on the show helped cement its status as one of the late ’90s “it bags”, alongside the Dior saddle-bag.

Lion-maned, daydreaming actress Sarah Jessica Parker recently reprised her relationship with the iconic bag, sorry, *baguette in February with Fendi’s #BaguetteFriendsForever campaign alongside German influencer Caroline Daur and models Ebonee Davis, Melissa Martinez and Natasha Lau. 15 years after uttering the iconic lines, when the crowd of sycophantic girls make it up to her and demand “Ma’am, I need that bag!”, Parker louchely replies “Oh, it’s not a bag. It’s a Baguette.”

The bag is making its way to London next Spring, landing in the Victoria & Albert Museum in April. Bags: Inside Out will bring together what is perhaps the most iconic collection of handbags the city has ever scene, all in one exhibition. The ultimate accessory of the handbag is finally getting its status as a pinnacle of western consumerist expression, with several of history’s iconic bags being curated alongside Bradashaw’s fabulous Fendi.

Also on display will be a grey Asprey handbag owned by Margaret Thatcher, which is set to be the star of the show. It’ll be joined by recognisable vanity cases, the ubiquitous Louis Vuitton luggage and the monogrammed mirror LV bags popularised by Paris Hilton and her then assistant Kim Kardashian.

Bags: Inside Out lands at the V&A, Knightsbridge SW7 2RL on the 25th April 2020.
