JOINERS ARMS

JOINERS ARMS

20/11/10: It’s Saturday night and, due to last weekend’s excesses and indiscretions, one was suffering the final stretch of a rather nasty cold. Extremely annoying when you’re visiting one of your favourite venues – filled to the brim with gorgeous, skinny-jeaned Hoxtonista mista’s full of alcoholic merriment. However, thanks to some strong medication imported from Mexico via the rectum of an illegal immigrant, we battled on. Sadly, a face full of snot and streaming red eyes didn’t exactly have the boys come running, but the aural and visual delights the Joiners provided this Saturday night were joyous enough to have your enfeebled Aunt Nora doin’ the dutty wine on the dancefloor. Uber-cool nu-romantic anthems blended seamlessly with current cool cuts, noughties underground and 80s/90s pop, featuring a crowd more diverse than your average Transport For London poster – minus a woman with a bindi and a grinning Mayor Boris giving a ‘thumbs up’. Now, I’m a lazy fucking bitch at the best of times, but it’s a testament to the Joiners that I stayed until well after 3am, despite looking like The Fly that Jeff Goldblum turns into in the movie of the same name. Deliciously lighthearted, free-spirited, booze-fuelled revelry, minus the attitude-filled tossers that certain Shoreditch gatherings like to attract. All this, and live music too? Joiners – we love you!
