WHEN I’M 65

We’re fortunate to have a number of long-running and established brands on our fair gay scene, but City of Quebec surely takes the longevity crown. Celebrating an amazing 65 years of pint pulling, we take a look at the bar’s history, and also what we can expect from this week’s celebrations…

The City of Quebec is only one of four London boozers that has been continuously gay since the end of World War II, and some of the customers have been drinking in the bar for 40-50 years.

Today, City of Quebec boasts a blend of those older regulars alongside a newer, younger clientele. Stir in to the mix regular cabaret and events that you won’t find in any other homoxual-leaning venue, and you have a truly eclectic spot with a rich and vast history – something that many young pretenders to the gay scene can only look on with envy.

It’s thought that gay servicemen began visiting the pub in the 1940s, and City of Quebec now boasts one of the most diverse clientele on the London gay scene.

Pop in on any night and you will spot people of all ages, social groups, sexuality and ethnic groups, and, if you’re that way inclined, City of Quebec has become a top spot for young entrepreneurs seeking mature investors…

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS…
On Thursday 25th August, head down to celebrate their official 65th birthday party, featuring cabaret from Karen Jones, Earl Grey and Tiffaney Wells. Plus, DJ Jeffrey will be down in The Den spinnin’ some saucy sounds.

Then, on Bank Holiday Sunday, don’t miss the legend that is Maisie Trollette bringing the birthday festivities to a close with some show-stopping numbers and cheeky humour, on stage from 10pm.
