KU Bar

04/06/16: A warm spring evening in London: what better time to head to Soho?

As we walk down Charing Cross road we find it hard to fight our way through the bustling crowd of foreign tourists, party goers and scene queens, then like an oasis at the corner of China town we arrive at the now legendary venue Ku Bar.

Met by big but very friendly door staff the welcoming atmosphere hits you immediately. The ground floor bar is bursting to the seams with a predominantly younger crowd of gay boys and their girl mates but as I spot some older guys, I get the feeling that everyone is made to feel welcome.

To my surprise the sounds of Vauxhall style deep house are pumping through the crowd as I reach the far end of the bar where DJ Rodrigo Tancredi is behind the decks.

Rodrigo cleverly adds pop samples and remixes to his house set to please the commercial Soho pop fans with famous Beyonce and Little Mix Bootlegs keeping the crowd dancing.

As we venture downstairs to KuKlub we are greeted by the gorgeous host Jan and the Clubland style sounds of DJ Nieko playing the best 7th Heaven remixes and top Bieber and Nicki Minaj chart tunes.

The KuKlub facelift looks great with the DJ box now in full view and DJ Nieko is wearing top to toe gold glitter making the most of the new spot lit DJ Decks. As we return upstairs I see the giant number 20 on the wall! Have I really been drinking in KU Bar 20 years?
