26/11/10: Never let it be said we’re not versatile in the places we visit. As much as we like to shout it out on the dancefloor at G-A-Y when Kylie’s in the house or bump titties with the boys from Barcelona at Matinée, we equally have a penchant for the rougher, tougher butcher end of the gay scene. Last week, strict rubber and leather night RUT celebrated two years of sexed-up soirees, and we were moist with anticipation at the thought. The crowd snaked down South Lambeth Road as gruff guys and horny hunks queued to get in; inside a throng of leathered daddies sidled up against randy rubbered blokes. The music was tough and progressive as the people swayed to the sounds, while others explored the darkened recesses. Propping up the bar for most of the night (I know what I’m good at) I leaned over to my fetish luvving partner-in-crime and whispered, “I think we’re too camp for this club!” He smiled knowingly. We certainly weren’t Action Man here, more a case of Leather Barbie and Ken. Still, as intimidated by fetish venues any newcomers might be, they really don’t need to worry. What surprised us most was just how welcoming everyone was. And we’re not just talking about the obvious cruising that goes on, but how sociable and friendly the crowd are. Time whizzed by and the next thing we knew, it was 4am when we were leaving. Alone? Well, that’s another story…
