BLANKETY BLANK @ 79CXR

28/08/11: Here at QX we love our Bank Holidays, and nothing says Bank Holiday like a camp charity version of Blankety Blank, raising money for GMFA. You can usually tell how old someone is by which version of Blankety Blank they remember best – Terry Wogan, Les Dawson or Lily Savage. We’re not saying anything… and if you’re simply too young to remember Blankety Blank, then we hate you! ϑ

Cue CXR’s genius event organiser Dave Bunce, a tranny bus full of London’s cabaret stars and drag divas, multi-talented Baga Chipz, ultra (makes you jealous) tanned Jason Reid, Alexis Carrington, Mrs Moore (also known as ‘The Hat’) and Tanya Hyde, and you have a recipe for full-on debauchery!

Bette Rinse hosted proceedings in her usual madcap manner, guiding the crowd and four contestants through a kitsch evening of rounds and Supermatch games (ah, the theme tune’s coming back already!) The CXR Blankety Blank cheque book and pen prize was even in-keeping with the original, too! Eventual winner Mavis was over the moon to be crowned camp champ.

With a backdrop of a mix of young fellas and the more mature of London’s men, I personally love feeling like a piece of meat in the lions den! Its a hard job, but somebody has to do it! We ended the crazy evening by boogying to some camp classics from Kylie to, of course Gaga, Gaga and yes, more Gaga. We even heard rumours there may be another one in the works – keep your eyes peeled to QX for more info. A great evening for a great cause.

PS: The guys at 79CXR would like to pass on big thanks to SteelDeck Rental in Bermondsey for very generously donating the decking.
