THE YARD

07/12/12: So, when did the weather take a turn for the testicle retracting, then? It only seems like last week since we were mincing down Old Compton Street in a barely-there tit sling and short shorts… actually, it was last week.

The gays can rock that summer look for longer than any other social group! Thankfully, The Yard are seriously getting into the festive spirit; warming our cold, dead winter hearts with some stunning seasonal treats.

First things first – The Yard manages to somehow outdo themselves every year in terms of Christmas décor, and this year didn’t disappoint! As soon as you walk through the courtyard entrance you’re greeted with a veritable Santa’s grotto of sexy lights twinkling in the frosty midwinter air, co-mingling with some delicately decorated trees and walls.

It’s absolutely stunning… and that’s just outside! Head upstairs to The Loft and the understated but effective decorations that adorn the walls and ceiling really add some classy festive cheer. We really applaud The Yard here; you can tell this is far from a five strings of tinsel for a quid and a few fairy lights from Argos kinda deal. Both thought and money have gone into this, and the rewards are paid back tenfold, as they’ve created a seasonal space that you really don’t want to leave.

As well as a ridiculously eclectic mix of Yuletide gays and ho-ho-homos, there’s also some delicious mulled wine and hot chocolate with Bailey’s and marshmallows to sample, plus some sparkly panted gogo boys to salivate over. For us, this is the best decorated bar we’ve seen on our queer travels thus far… Gayland, it’s over to you!
