#JULIASAYS – Discerning scene musings from the princess of East London!

Discerning scene musings from the princess of East London!

Interestingly, we start the New Year with a sense of optimism even though it seems the world in general is going tits up!

When art and clubland meet, no-one knows what might happen. Over at DJ and gallerist Fred Mann’s New Arts Projects gallery, a new exhibition VFD10 – Punish the Streets explores just that, with an array of artists coming together to celebrate VFD (Vogue Fabrics Dalston) and its pioneering space. On Thursday 10th January at 6pm go and join the private view with artists Travis Alabanza, Kembra Pfahler, Dave Baby, Christeene, Dr Noki, Ismail Erbril, Dusty O, Sue Tilley, Angel Rose, Julie Verhoven and Jenkin van Zyl. On till 2nd March at newartsprojects.com

Now then, Virgin Xtravaganzah makes her debut appearance at The Karaoke Hole on Friday 11th January from 8pm till 3am. Dishing out celestial advice and turning everything into a super camp religious experience, the all-singing, all-dancing Virgin will grace and bless us as only they know how…

QUEER is back on Friday 11th Jan at Paper Dress Vintage, 352a Mare Street. A ‘punk, indie, soul and rock ‘n’ roll night’ with DJs Paul Michael Bowden and Sam Fenn, who’ll be playing a set of queercore classics after live bands HUSSY and After London from 11pm till 3am.

New Friday weekly Bender at the Eagle London on 11th January is where it’s at, with DJs Guy Ruben and Wes Baggaley. All your fave dance floor stompers and plus our lovely Bimini hosts. 9pm till 4am.

Feeling all Bowiesque? Get ye down to The Cave Club David Bowie Special at the Moth Club on Friday 11th. It’s the night where Rhys Webb (The Horrors) and Telegram Sam (Telegram) play the ziggy do dah inspirations from 9pm-3am. I’m very tempted tbh!

Then cult night WIMP is back for a theme of Trashion on Friday 11th at The Yard, Unit 2a, Queens Yard up in Hackney Wick. Turn trash into fashion (get it?) with this inventive lot and dance around…DJs GFOTY, Adam Frost, Jazmin Bean, and Joey Fourr. Performance from Petite Lamé and hosts Emily After, Rizzla, Gomorrah, Joe Sweetie and Evil Kebab. 10pm till 3am.

In the ever-inventive world of performance, The ShayShay Show stands out like a glorious beacon of hope. On Saturday 12th ShayShay presents The TheyThey Show at 8pm till 2am at SET, 27a Dalston Lane. With the talents of Rebekah Ubuntu, Rodent and of course ShayShay. Plus DJ GIN throwing down some tunage, show time 9pm.

I’m back with Princess Julia LOVES and my special guest Bimini on Sunday 13th January at The Glory. Starts at 7pm and on till 11pm. It’s a nice casual evening of eclectic music and performance.

Here’s one for your diaries; One Night On Eartha – Eartha Kitt Tribute Night on Thursday January 17th at The Glory. Eartha Kitt, an inspirational icon, has a major story to discover apart from the fact she did a track with Bronksi Beat ‘Cha Cha Heels’ back in the day. As well as an actress and singer, she was a civil and gay rights activist known for speaking her mind. Alas she died in December 2008. Catch the show starring Rhys’ Pieces, ShayShay and Sherika Sherard at 8pm.
