Myra’s Roast

28/06/2016: As you MIGHT have heard, we did a comedy roast of cabaret legend and silver-tongued siren Myra DuBois at the RVT. It was in aid of HIV charity Terrence Higgins Trust. Which of course she wasted no time in making a joke about. “If you’ve got HIV, just reach into the buckets and take the money back” she said, within approximately two minutes of being on stage “it’s your money anyway.”

The audience screamed and we were off. It was hosted by the relentlessly energetic, always funny Ginger Johnson, and the roasters were Holestar, Mrs Moore, Mary Mac and Lola Lasagne. They were all hilarious in their various nuanced (actually, not so nuanced) ways, but my personal favourite was Mrs Moore. It was the first time I’d seen her. She’s bloody mad isn’t she! I like my comedy with a serving of dark unhinged insanity, and she certainly fits that bill.

Anyway, DESPITE vitriol and insults being chucked left right and centre it was, like all roasts, ultimately meant in good nature. And we raised over £2400! How about that! So raise a triple gin and tonic to us, to THT, to Myra and, most importantly, to those who the money was raised for.

SEE YOU NEXT YEAR.
