If you haven’t heard about Summer Rites yet, than maybe you’re just not in the cool crowd, but don’t worry about it; there’s gonna be an entire tent dedicated to cool at Summer Rites: Pride in the Park. The Bloc Party, Bootylicious and R & She are hosting the Urban World tent and playing all the coolest urban beats for the cool, the uncool, the hot, the not and everything in between, to shake their bum bums with like minded urban urchins!

THE BLOC PARTY
(Mark-Ashley Dupé)

“The crowd is young, fashion forward and loves music. You’re likely to hear a mash up of old and new school beats from r’n’b and hip-hop to old school garage and Afro beats, played by some of the hottest talent London has to offer. The Bloc Party is definitely not just a another night out, we have all become like a little family!”

The Bloc Party Top 3

  1. ‘Grown Woman’ – Beyoncé
Because every time I play this in the club, I end up abandoning the decks to join everyone on the dance floor and, of course, I identify with it… I, too, am a grown woman and ‘I can do what ever I want’.
  2. ‘Bum Bum’ – Timaya
Afro beats is the kind of music that you can’t help but shake up your ‘bum bum’ to, and this song gets them bum bums going crazy!
  3. ‘Real’ – Gorgon City (feat. Yasmine)
Just EVERYTHING! And makes the people want to SHUFFLE!

Favourite Pride memory

“My best pride moment was last year… I know that might sound odd, as it was cancelled, but we still had a really good time. Everybody came out in force and I remember being on top of the bar at Floridita, handing out Deelooded stickers whilst playing the bongos and shaking my ‘bum bum’ to a very energetic crowd. I was LIVING!”

BOOTYLICIOUS EAST
(Kartel Brown)

“We cater to a new generation of London’s coolest partygoers, those who do not wish to be defined by their sexuality, race or gender; individuals who all have that one thing in common, their love for music. Expect to hear anything from ‘90s r’n’b to deep house; our DJs work with the crowd. The atmosphere is London; different folks from different strokes, all expressing themselves on a packed out dance-floor!”

Bootylicious East Top 3

  1. You & Me’ – Disclosure (feat. Eliza Doolittle) (Baauer Remix)
This gets everyone’s hands in the air – great remix
  2. ‘Bubble Butt’ – Major Lazer (feat. Bruno Mars, 2 Chainz Tyga and Mystic)
This gets a lot of asses shaking on the dancefloor.
  3. ‘I Will Survive’ – Leah McFall
Love to support new emerging UK talent and this young lady is world class. She is gonna be huge!

Favourite Pride memory

“I struggle with pride memories as I’m always too shit-faced, but I get told afterwards that they’ve all been good ones!”

R & SHE
(Neil Prince & QBoy)

“R & She is a night dedicated to the queens of r’n’b and hip-hop from the ‘90s to present with me, QBoy and David Oh on deck duty. We have an amazingly loyal crowd who come purely for their love of the music and sing/scream along to every word!”

R & She Top 3

  1. ‘Touch It’ – Monifah
A filthy sexy R & She anthem to get you, and whoever’s nearest you, hot under the collar.
  2. ‘Dip it Low’ – Christina Milian
Great track; everybody grinds on the dancefloor and it’s written by one of QBoy’s all time favourite artists, Teedra Moses.
  3. ‘Caught Out There’ – Kelis
For all those that need to vent some anger. AAAAAGGGGHH.

Favourite Pride memory

“QBoy easily wins this one as he got to perform on the main stage in Trafalgar Square in front of thousands of people and he says, ‘The sun was shining bright and the vibe was amazing. I felt electric and so happy to be part of a celebration of our freedom.’”

• The Urban World Tent will be at Summer Rites: Pride in the Park on Saturday 29th June (Shoreditch Park, New North Road, N1 6TA) 2pm – 11pm.
