QX spoke to Michael, GM at Village Bar Soho, about the beer that’s supporting queer people. Brewed by Portobello Brewery, the sale of each drink of Polari Pale Ale and Rainbow Pilsner generates 10p for Stonewall Housing. This charity provides housing support, advice and advocacy to the LGBTQ+ community.
Nice to meet you, Michael. How have Rainbow Pilsner and Polari gone down with your customers?
Everyone loves it! They look great and taste great, and we are very excited to add such quality products to our mix.
Why do you think Stonewall Housing is a good charity to Support?
Many of us in our community need more support and structure, especially young people not being accepted by their family and friends after they come out. That’s exactly what happened to me. After I came out, I was asked to leave my house and everything I knew/had behind. I moved to London and found amazing friends and the support system I needed. So, I’m beyond excited that in partnership with Stonewall Housing, we can help and support all those in need and make a difference, one pint at a time.
You must have some exciting plans for Pride. Will Rainbow Pilsner and Polari be a part of them?
Pride is always a BIG thing, especially if you are based in the middle of Soho. It’s the longest day, but it’s also when we all have the most fun. We will have our usual DJs, Go-Go Boys, all day and night. Of course, Polari and Pilsner will be part of our celebrations, and we hope to make some extra cash for the charity.
What would you say to bars thinking about supporting Stonewall Housing with these Beers?
DO IT! You will be happy selling quality products; your customer will be happy drinking quality products, AND you will help improve some lives.
