Introducing…The All New QX Property Pages

queer bar in East London.

Joe Holyoake looks at the hottest properties to hit the market this week…

As a free title, we have to ensure that we remain on trend so people will pick up and flick through. With the closure of three venues in a week, we decided that our regular focus on nightlife is rapidly losing relevancy and instead, we are DELIGHTED to introduce our new feature: THE QX PROPERTY PAGES.  Right, I’ve just changed into a suit so shiny it looks like I’ve been laminated. Welcome to our new HQ. Come sit down on an overly large plush leather sofa and help yourself to a complimentary bottle of San Pell. Hop in our QX-branded Mini as we take you on a guided tour of the most EXCITING property opportunities that have sprung up in London this week.

25 Tryon St, SW3 3LG (Formerly The Queen’s Head)

Quite simply, a location to diiiiiie for, darling. Hidden away just off the King’s Road, these new units are a Barbour jacket’s throw from the Saatchi Gallery and Sloane Square. This historic building was home to a well-loved gay pub for over 60 years, though it has recently shut its doors. Following the on-trend brewery-chic movement, the re-development keeps many of the quirky features, from the signs on the exterior of the building, to part of the actual bar in the ground-floor flat, even the condom machine in one of the bathrooms!

5 Brewer St, W1F 0RF (Formerly The Shadow Lounge)

Located in the up and coming area of hustling, bustling Soho, these two and three bedroom apartments are sure to fly off the market. And unlike the name of the club that used to operate in the building, the large windows of the living area ensure its bathed in a sumptuous light. Not that anyone will be living in this prime investment piece, of course!
A large effort has been made to improve the surrounding area in order to clean up its previous reputation of decadence and debauchery.  Proof of this can be seen by looking down from one of the elegant front-facing balconies to Brewer Street below; thankfully, Madame JoJo’s remains shut since its closure in 2014. However, that is not to say that there’s nothing to do in this lovely area. If you enjoy quick Italian food, you’re in luck: there’s not one, nor two, not even three, but TEN Pizza Express restaurants in the half-mile radius surrounding this development. They say man can’t live off dough balls alone, but I’m not convinced!

77A Charterhouse Street, EC1M 6HJ (Formerly fabric)

You may have read in the news about the closure of the allegedly drug-fuelled den that used to operate in this unique, cavernous development. We can guarantee there’ll be nothing of that sort happening here anymore! Instead, these splendid new studio and two bedroom apartments are the perfect place to relax, with the excellent sound-proofing installed by the previous owners ensuring you’ll have the best sleep of your life! What’s more, we’ve paid homage to its history by decking out the rooms with only the finest fabric. So, drop us a call and we’ll arrange a viewing for the apartments in this imposing building, once home to the Metropolitan Cold Stores and a famous nightclub.

• So, do any of those take your fancy? Do let us know if you want to put an offer in; you’ve got my card. We hope that the QX Property pages will be a regular feature. We will continue to cover future opportunities, whether they be in old theatres, railway arches or well-loved public houses. London’s appetite for luxury flats shows no signs of abating; we’ll be here to satisfy it.

• If you don’t laugh, you cry. Support London’s gay venues by going this weekend and dancing until the sun comes up.
