According to figures released today by Chappy, more than half of the gay men that they surveyed said they have experienced some form of discrimination in the workplace because of their sexuality.
Figures released by the dating app today revealed that sexuality-based discrimination in the workplace is still a real problem for many of us within the LGBT+ community. Their research surveyed the experiences of 500 British gay man, of which 54% said that they had experienced discrimination in their place of work.
More worryingly, 57% of those who had an incident happen at work did not report it, reflecting a real issue with gay men feeling comfortable reporting an incident. It’s unclear why gay men don’t fear comfortable to report these incidents, but it seems a fundamental lack of understanding of gay issues could be blamed.
The report also found that there were three major industries that are perceived to be the most homophobic: Manufacturing, Sport and Construction. These are on the upper end of a spectrum, between having a neutral attitude towards the gay community and being homophobic. 66% of the industries the group were questioned about were perceived to be between being neutral and homophobic.
