‘Mesmerised’ is a soulful, jazzy, and upbeat summer anthem that captures the excitement of infatuation when you meet someone on the dance floor at a club. The track was written by Worricka, his long-time collaborator Craigie Dodds, and Juan Luis Ayala in Brixton. It draws inspiration from Bowie’s ‘Let’s Dance’ and incorporates elements of 80s pop along with Worricka’s undeniable soul sensibilities and Boy George’s distinctive vocals.

Worricka

Worricka and Boy George first met around 15 years ago through a chance phone call arranged by their mutual friend, DJ Lloyd Dixon. This encounter sparked a relationship rooted in their shared love for music, performance, and composition. It all began when Worricka texted Lloyd while they were both heading to a Vivienne Westwood fashion show in Paris. Having known Lloyd from the club scene, Worricka felt inspired by some music he had recently written and decided to reach out. He asked Lloyd to play the track for Boy George, who liked what he heard. Since then, Boy George has supported, mentored, and collaborated with Worricka in the studio.

Speaking of this working relationship with Worricka, Boy George told QX, “I love Worricka’s jazzy tones and we have worked on a few things together. I don’t know why we have never written together, but we should. He sounds great doing reggae and he brings a familiar flavour with his voice but he still sounds like himself. I hear a bit of Jessye Norman andthat’s serious praise! Amen!”

Worricka told QX, “So, I’m just casually releasing a duet with one of the world’s most iconic musicians – Boy George. It’s called ‘Mesmerised’ and it’s about the first moments of infatuation when you meet someone on the dance floor in a club.

“I’m so happy that George has blessed this song with his presence. His talent, creativity and artistry rings true over this soulful, bluesy dance piece and those who have heard it are finding it hard to tell us apart? We shared the stage for the first time many years ago at The Jazz Cafe when George asked me to join him to open a charity show. Since then, we have written songs together, I featured on his album and supported him for his Culture Club gig at The Eventim Apollo

“Now we share the stage once again with ‘Mesmerised’. It’s giving me a bit of Amy Winehouse – Rehab, a bit of Bowie – Let’s Dance, and a bit of Prince on the high notes… and of course a bit of us.”
