The festival started in 1986 under the name Gays’ Own Pictures and then changed its name to London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival in 1988. The film festival has consistently focused on community engagement and artistic expression. This milestone year promises a diverse program, showcasing the latest talents and stories from the LGBTQIA+ community.The festival will feature screenings of both feature-length and short films, along with filmmaker introductions and Q&A sessions.
Festivities include special events featuring illustrated talks, panels, and free DJ nights, culminating in a screening of some of the most popular films from the past year on March 29. The festival will also highlight the significance of LGBTQIA+ cinema over the past four decades, with an exhibition at Queer Britain Museum in London and special screenings of restored classics such as Pink Narcissus in cinemas throughout the UK.

Tickets can be purchased through various methods: online, by phone, or in person at BFI Southbank. Ticket prices vary based on membership status: Discounts for BFI members, those under 25 years old, and eligible concession holders. You can also buy last-minute tickets through a standby queue.
A portion of the proceeds will support the BFI’s charitable work, and UK taxpayers have the option to enhance their donation with Gift Aid.
There are £6 ticket option for 16-25 year-olds and on the day discounted tickets for those on Universal Credit, Pension Credit, or Jobseekers Allowance. The festival caters to a wide audience, honouring the rich tapestry of queer cinema and encouraging participation from both new and seasoned attendees.
