NEW YEAR’S WEAVE!

Jason Reid joined the drag stars at The Black Cap as they rang in 2012 in typical glittering style…

As I noshed on the last of the Christmas cake, pondering what I’d do with that delightful porcelain chimpanzee playing the trumpet that my Aunt Bridie ‘kindly’ gave me for Christmas, I readied myself for the upcoming carnage of the biggest party night of the year… NEW YEAR’S EVE! So I jumped off my leatherette pouffe, pre booked a session at Tanny Flaps, popped a bottle of Blue Nun on ice and off I sashayed.

The Black Cap, Camden was my destination and I arrived just in time to see Baga Chipz, the hostess for the night, warming the crowd up with a banging version of ‘Celebrate’ before introducing three piece act Supasista, who had us swinging our beef to an array of perfectly choreographed and upbeat lip syncing routines.

Baga (who incidentally had more fabulous costume changes than an Oscar’s presenter) whipped the crowd up into a frenzy as the witching hour approached and the countdown began.

The North London bar rocked to its foundations as 2012 was signaled with the chimes of Big Ben and the playing of ‘Auld Lang Syne’; followed by a sing-along to ‘Knees-up Mother Brown’, with all the cabaret stars on stage.

The fun continued with Nicky Vixen and Millie Turner treating the revelers to a show of amazing quick changes and stunning sequin-clad costumes, followed by more song and banter from Battersea girl Mandy Gap.

A fantastic night with a wonderful atmosphere, great mix of cabaret and lots of happy punters; all interspersed with top tunes by DJ Littlejon, who had ‘The Cap’ rocking ‘til the early hours.
